What Is Fleet Upfitting?

Upfitting is everything that turns a bare chassis or cab into a work-ready vehicle — the service body on a pickup, the shelving and bins in a van, the liftgate on a cab-chassis, the lighting and telematics wired in, and the wrap that puts your name on the door.

Some of it comes from the factory as an order code — think power-take-off prep, upfitter switches, or a heavy-duty alternator — and the rest is installed after the build by a body company or equipment shop. The trick is sequencing the two so the vehicle arrives complete, not as a chassis you then have to shepherd through a second vendor.

Envision Motors Fleet coordinates both halves. We spec the factory codes that the upfit depends on, manage the body and equipment install, and deliver the finished vehicle — one purchase order, one point of contact, work-ready on arrival.

What We Upfit

From a single service body to a full multi-trade rollout — here's the range we coordinate.

Service & Utility Bodies

Steel and aluminum service bodies, enclosed utility bodies, flatbeds, dump bodies, and crane bodies — Knapheide, Reading, Royal, and more on Ford chassis. See service body trucks.

Van Racking & Shelving

Interior shelving, drawer units, partitions, floor and wall liners, and ladder racks for Transit and E-Transit — organized to the trade that runs the van.

Liftgates & Cranes

Tuck-away and rail liftgates, service cranes, and material-handling equipment sized to the payload and duty cycle of the job.

Lighting & Safety

Work and scene lighting, amber warning beacons and directional bars, backup alarms, and cameras — for utility, DOT, and municipal fleets.

Telematics & GPS

GPS/AVL, fleet telematics, and camera systems wired at upfit — pre-provisioned so tracking is live the day the vehicle enters service.

Wraps & Graphics

Full and partial wraps, reflective striping, and door decals — brand your fleet or meet department and DOT marking requirements.

Factory Codes vs. Aftermarket Install

A good upfit uses both — and the factory half has to be ordered before the truck is built.

On the Build

Factory Upfit Codes

Ordered with the vehicle — upfitter switches, power-take-off prep, auxiliary power and wiring, heavy-duty alternators, and payload/GVWR packages. These have to be spec'd before the factory builds the truck.

After the Build

Aftermarket Install

Added once the chassis lands — bodies, racking, liftgates, lighting, telematics, and wraps, installed by the body company or equipment shop before delivery.

The Handoff

Sequenced Together

We spec the factory codes the aftermarket work depends on, then manage the install so nothing gets missed and the finished vehicle arrives work-ready — not as a chassis you have to route to a second vendor.

How Pricing & Timing Work

Quoted as one line. Chassis, body, equipment, and delivery come back on a single quote — so your budget or bid reflects the finished vehicle, not just the truck.

Timing follows the chassis. Upfit scheduling keys off the factory order cycle. Popular chassis and bodies both book out, so an early order protects your in-service date.

Spec once, repeat cleanly. Once we've built one configuration for your fleet, the next units run to the same spec — consistent trucks, consistent pricing, no re-engineering.

One point of contact. You deal with our fleet team, not three vendors — we coordinate the body company and equipment shops and own the delivery date.

Factory order, install coordination, inspection, and delivery — work-ready on arrival.

Fleet Upfitting FAQ

What does fleet upfitting include?

Anything that turns a chassis or cab into a work-ready vehicle: service and utility bodies, van racking and shelving, liftgates and cranes, work and warning lighting, telematics and GPS, and wraps or graphics — plus the factory order codes those installs depend on.

Do I have to use a separate company for the body and equipment?

No — that's the point of upfit coordination. We spec the factory codes, manage the body and equipment install, and deliver the finished vehicle on one purchase order, so you're not routing a chassis to a second vendor yourself.

Can the upfit be quoted with the vehicle?

Yes. Chassis, body, equipment, and delivery come back on a single quote within one business day, so your budget or bid reflects the finished, work-ready vehicle.

What's the difference between factory and aftermarket upfitting?

Factory upfitting is ordered with the vehicle — upfitter switches, PTO prep, auxiliary power, payload packages — and has to be spec'd before the build. Aftermarket upfitting is installed after the chassis lands: bodies, racking, liftgates, lighting, telematics, and wraps. A good build uses both, sequenced together.

Can you match an existing truck in our fleet?

Yes. Send us photos or the spec of a vehicle you already run and we'll build the next units to match — consistent configuration, consistent pricing, no re-engineering.
